How Silvengate handles personal data

This notice explains what personal data we collect through silvengate.com, why we use it, who we share it with and the rights you have. Last updated 28 September 2026

1. Who we are

Silvengate, 124-128 City Road, London, England, EC1V 2NX, is the controller of the personal data described in this notice. For any question about this notice or your data, write to hello@silvengate.com.

2. The personal data we collect

Information you give us. When you request the Business Scan, complete a questionnaire or enquiry form, subscribe to our newsletter or email us, we collect the details you provide: your name, email address, phone number (optional), business name, website, your answers to the questionnaire and any message you write.

Information collected when you submit a form. We record the date and time, the page you were on, your IP address, your browser type and how you reached the site (for example the website, search engine or advertising campaign that referred you).

Information collected when you browse. Our own site analytics records the pages you view, time on page, how far you scroll, the referring website or campaign, your device type, browser, language and time zone, linked to a random visitor identifier stored in a cookie. It does not store your IP address; the country shown in our reports is estimated from your time zone. Advertising and analytics providers also collect information through their tags on the site, as described in section 4.

We do not ask for special category data, and we do not need your customers' data. Please do not include patient, guest or other customer information in forms or messages to us.

3. How we use your data and our lawful basis

  • To deliver the Business Scan and respond to your enquiry. Lawful basis: steps taken at your request before entering into a contract, and our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries.
  • To send you our newsletter. Lawful basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • To send you emails about our services related to your enquiry. Lawful basis: our legitimate interests and, where the law requires it, your consent. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
  • To understand how the site is used and to measure and improve our advertising. Lawful basis: our legitimate interests and, where the law requires it, your consent.
  • To keep the site and our systems secure and to prevent spam and abuse. Lawful basis: our legitimate interests.
  • To comply with the law. Lawful basis: legal obligation.

We do not make decisions about you with legal or similarly significant effects based solely on automated processing.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

A cookie is a small file stored by your browser. The site uses the following:

  • sg_vid (our own): a random visitor identifier for our site analytics. Kept for 12 months.
  • sg_src (our own): records how you first and last arrived at the site, so an enquiry can be attributed to its source. Kept for the browser session, or for 90 days if you accept cookies.
  • sg_ses and sg_cookie (our own, stored in your browser's local storage): the current visit, which ends after 30 minutes of inactivity, and your cookie banner choice.
  • Google Analytics and Google Ads (set by Google): measure how the site is used and which advertising leads to enquiries.
  • Meta Pixel (set by Meta): measures which Facebook and Instagram advertising leads to visits and enquiries.
  • LinkedIn Insight Tag (set by LinkedIn): measures which LinkedIn advertising leads to visits and enquiries.

The retention periods of the Google, Meta and LinkedIn cookies are set by those providers and described in their own privacy information. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can manage advertising preferences in your Google, Meta and LinkedIn account settings. Blocking cookies does not stop the site from working.

5. Who we share your data with

We share personal data only with the service providers we use to run the site and our business, who process it on our instructions:

  • Hostinger, which hosts the website and sends the email notifications generated by our forms.
  • Omnisend, our email platform. The contact details you submit through a form are stored there, with a record of the form you used and how you reached the site.
  • Meta. When you submit a form, we send Meta a hashed (encrypted, one-way) version of your email address and, if you gave one, your phone number, together with your IP address, browser type and Meta cookie identifiers, to measure which advertising leads to enquiries.
  • Google and LinkedIn, through the tags described in section 4.

We may also disclose personal data to professional advisers, to a buyer or successor if our business is sold or reorganised, or where we are required to by law. We do not sell personal data.

6. International transfers

Some of our providers process data outside the UK and the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where that happens, the transfer relies on safeguards recognised by UK and EU data protection law, such as adequacy regulations (including the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework) or standard contractual clauses.

7. How long we keep your data

  • Business Scan requests and enquiries: 24 months from our last contact with you, then deleted, unless we are working together, in which case our contract governs.
  • Newsletter subscription: until you unsubscribe. We keep a record of the unsubscribe so that we do not email you again.
  • Site analytics collected by our own tracker: up to 400 days.
  • Data collected by Google, Meta and LinkedIn: as set out in their own privacy information.

8. How we protect your data

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including encrypted connections, restricted access and two-factor authentication on our analytics and enquiries dashboard.

9. Your rights

Under data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete your data;
  • ask us to restrict how we use your data;
  • object to our use of your data based on legitimate interests, and object at any time to direct marketing;
  • receive data you gave us in a portable format;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent.

To exercise any of these rights, write to hello@silvengate.com. We will respond within one month. There is normally no charge.

10. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113) or, if you live in the European Economic Area, to the data protection authority in your country, such as the State Data Protection Inspectorate in Lithuania (vdai.lrv.lt).

11. Children

The site and our services are intended for businesses and are not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

12. Changes to this notice

We may update this notice from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
